Our team recently resolved a long-running divorce case, where proceedings were first initiated over 10 years ago. The parties had previously acted in person, and whilst Decree Nisi (the half-way point in divorce proceedings) was pronounced in 2003, neither party had taken pro-active steps to finalise the divorce (despite the parties living separately and there being no periods of reconciliation). Our family team worked closely with our client to produce a statement in support of an application for Decree Absolute – which was then considered by a Judge. The Court were satisfied that despite the delay, it was appropriate to pronounce Decree Absolute, meaning proceedings were finally concluded for the parties.
