Settlement agreed at mediation in Inheritance Act claim

Curzon Green Solicitors recently settled a sensitive claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 at a mediation. We acted for a partner of the deceased who had lived with him for several years prior to him passing away unexpectedly without having made a will. The entire estate passed under the rules of intestacy to the deceased’s young daughter (from previous marriage). The age of the beneficiary provided an additional layer of complexity as the settlement had to be approved by the Court. The agreement was finally rubber stamped in February 2018. Our client will receive a significant five-figure payment and was able to keep many items of furniture which she and the deceased had collected together.
