Pregnancy and Maternity Discrimination

As we reported back in September 2016, according to government statistics 77% of mothers have had a negative or possibility discriminatory experience during pregnancy.  Many of these women do not speak out.

Over the past twelve months, our employment team has advised and assisted many individuals to assert their legal rights, attaining them thousands of pounds in compensation, with our fees frequently being paid wholly by the employer.

Recent clients include two women who worked in finance, each of whom was invited by their employer to “take redundancy” because they were “a new mother” when meeting to discuss their return to work. We acted for a retail development manager of a household beauty name whose CEO did not speak to her following her pregnancy announcement.  We are currently instructed by an estate agent who was dismissed just weeks prior to commencing her maternity leave.
