As is common for the time of year (as businesses look to work to new budgets for a New Year), our employment team had a busy December advising employees in relation to the termination of their employment under a Settlement Agreement. Settlement Agreements are legally binding contracts that waive an individual’s rights to make a claim covered by the agreement to an employment tribunal or court. Interestingly, we have been instructed by HR directors and managers moving on to new pastures, a number of whom had previously been on “the other side” of the negotiations!
