Where a person wants to visit the UK in order to receive private medical treatment, they can apply for a Private Medical Treatment Visit Visa.
If you fall into this category, you should note that you need to fulfil the requirements for a standard Visitor Visa as set out above. In addition, you will need to satisfy the Home Office that:
- you do not intend to seek treatment from the NHS;
- if you are suffering from a communicable disease, that you are not a threat to public health;
- you have sufficient funds to pay for the private medical treatment; and
- the treatment is finite in duration.
You should note that if you are seeking to obtain a Private Medical Treatment Visit Visa, you must arrange the treatment before travelling to the UK and will need to provide a letter from your doctor in the UK detailing the condition which requires treatment, the costs and duration of any treatment; and where the treatment will take place.
If you are applying for an 11 month visit visa for the purposes of private medical treatment you must also provide evidence from your medical practitioner in the UK that the proposed treatment is likely to exceed 6 months but not more than 11 months. You may also be required to provide a valid TB certificate.
If you are coming to the UK to donate an organ, additional requirements may apply.
