Jessica acts for both employees and employers in Tribunal claims, and also undertakes several non-contentious matters within the employment team, including the drafting of settlement agreements and HR policies and documents. With a particular interest in discrimination claims, Jessica has experience in claims heard in the Employment Tribunal, and also the Civil Courts and First-Tier Tribunal for Special Educational Needs and Disability.
Notable claims that Jessica has been involved in include a claim by the former CEO of a high street retail chain. The matter progressed to the EAT on a complex, technical point regarding employee shareholder status and the right to bring claims for unfair dismissal. This was the first decided case on the employee shareholder provisions in s205A ERA 1996.
Jessica is also instructed by a Championship football club to provide tailored employment advice and support, as well as a multi-national hair and beauty company to advise on various aspects of UK employment law including workers status and employee rights.
Alongside advising company clients, Jessica also provides advice to and represents individuals including assisting in a claim by a former employee of a US Investment Management Company in a claim for direct and indirect discrimination who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Jessica recently assisted a high-profile CEO in negotiating a commercial exit following 20 years’ service at the company, to secure favourable terms and to minimise PR risk, and to preserve a future relationship with the company. Jessica acts for several Respondents including companies and individuals.
Her experience in civil litigation enables her to act in complex multifaceted matters, such as acting for both companies and individuals in relation to breach of restrictive covenant actions, including injunctive proceedings in the High Court. Jessica frequently advises on the drafting and enforceability of restrictive covenants, both contained in employment contracts and as standalone agreements.
During her time with the dispute resolution team, Jessica has experience acting for clients with regards to debt recovery and enforcement. Jessica's caseload also includes several Inheritance Act claims, with experience in acting for both Claimants and Defendants. Jessica has experience in probate disputes, including a recent case where allegations of fraudulent calumny were made as a cause of action.
Jessica has also acted for a number of clients in personal injury claims and her previous seats as a trainee mean that she has gained experience in both residential and commercial property, and also wills.
Jessica trained with the firm having obtained a 2:1 law degree from the University of Leicester and a Distinction on her Legal Practice Course. Jessica qualified as a solicitor in August 2016 and was promoted to the status of Associate Solicitor in June 2017 and the position of Junior Partner on 1 November 2019.
Jessica is the senior lead accountable for the Women in Law Pledge that Curzon Green have subscribed to, championed by the Law Society's diversity and inclusion team, and is working with the team to create and implement an action plan to ensure we meet our pledge commitments.
Jessica is a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association and has sat on its working parties, assisting with ELA’s response to government consultations on amendments to flexible working legislation, on DSARs and guidance from the ICO, and on carer’s leave proposals.
Before joining the firm Jessica had experience working within a debt advice and housing law agency. Whilst undertaking her degree, Jessica was also involved in a number of charities including Actionaid and Childreach International, and fundraised over £5,000 for the latter by climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and trekking to Everest Base Camp.
