In early March the Ministry of Justice confirmed that a 34% hike in divorce fees would take effect on 21 March despite opposition from family lawyers.
Last summer the MoJ consulted on court fee rises, including a proposed rise in divorce fees from £410 to £550. Little more was said about this until family lawyers were contacted by their local divorce centres just days before the change.
The court fee for filing a Divorce Petition now stands at £550 rather than the previous sum of £410.
